OUTBACK OUTREACH
Outback Outreach is the evolution of our highly successful 2017 – 2022 project Regional Arts Connect and is based on our commitment that young people, no matter where they live, should be given the opportunity to experience the joys of creative expression.
At its heart Outback Outreach is a mentoring, information sharing and up-skilling project targeted at young people and regional arts practitioners spanning the remote regions of NSW – Condobolin/Lake Cargelligo, Bourke/Walgett/Coonamble and Broken Hill/Wilcannia.
Utilising our 35 years of regional youth arts experience, OTYP is working with these communities to develop their own sustainable youth arts practice.
We work closely with individual artists and groups to identify skills gaps and share OTYP’s process and learnings, so that a sustainable approach can be developed to enrich the artistic experiences of young people in these towns.
INTRODUCING MUURPA NAARIKU CIRCUS
Our ongoing circus program in Wilcannia means there are lots of young people who know how to juggle, balance, flip and tumble.
In 2024 Cirque du Soliel offered our circus troupe the VIP treatment at their Adelaide season of LUZIA.
What an adventure.
DON’T JUST TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT
One of our ongoing partnerships for Outback Outreach is with the Bourke Walgett School of Distance Education.
For a number of years now the students join in theatre and dance workshops with artists Alyson Evans and Jade Dewi Tyas Tunggal, culminating in a performance for the community at their December mini school.
In 2024 the students made puppets and choreographed their own dance inspired by the theme of Invertebrates.
